C Am F C -- x2
G7 C C7 F C G7 C

   C Am
As I was going over the Kilmagenny mountain,
  F C
I came on Captain Farrell and his money he was counting.
      C Am
First I drew my pistol and then I drew my rapier
  F
saying "stand and deliver for I am a bold deceiver."

Chorus:
 G G7 C
 with me ring-a-diddle-dum-da; whack-fol-the-daddy-o
 Am F C G7 C
whack-fol-the-daddy-o there's whiskey in the jar

I counted out his money and it made a pretty penny,
I put it in my pocket for to take it to my Jenny.
She sighed and swore; she never would deceive me,
But the devil take the woman for they always lie so easy.

(chorus)

I went into me chamber and for all to take a slumber,
to dream of gold and glory and of course it was no wonder.
Sweet Jenny took my charges and she filled them up with water
then she called on Captain Farrell to get ready for the slaughter

(chorus)

Next morning bright and early before I rose to travel,
there came a band of footmen and likewise Captain Farrell,
First I drew my pistol for she'd stole away my rapier;
But I couldn't shoot the water so a prisoner I was taken.

(chorus)

If there's anyone can aid me it's my brother in the army
I've heard that he's been stationed far in Cork or in Killarney.
Together we'd go roaming over the mountains of Kilkenny,
and I swear he'd treat me fairer than me darling sporting Jenny.

(chorus)

There's some takes delight in the carriages and rolling
some takes delight in the hurley or the bowling.
But I takes delight in the juice of the barley,
and in courtin pretty fair maids in the mornin bright and early.

(chorus)

Whiskey in the Jug

As I was 'legging over the west virginny mountain
I was chased on by a revenoor with sireen bright and flashing
first i dumped my slick oil therefore to watch him fishtail
and tumble end for end thru the midnite air so darkling

with I won't take no mockin now
whack from my daddy's arm
whack from my daddy's arm
There's whiskey in the jug

He landed upside down and was crushed and bloody mangled
whereupon I went to fetch out trusty betsy double-barrelled
I stepped up to the twisted wreck and then I pulled the trigger
I pulled his headless body out and threw it in the river

(chorus)

I kept the cash and credit cards I took out from his wallet
and made the run in record time to see my darling Jenny
we went out to the dance-hall and I spent a pretty penny
I told her of my lucky find and that I hoped we'd marry

(chorus)

My Jenny is a good girl, she'll be true and faithful always
or so thought as I dozed in my hotrod sweetly dreamin
I wakened with a start to a whippin' with a pistol
held by Sherriff Farrell and a band of fed'ral agents

(chorus)

They cuffed me and they beat me and then threw me in the hole
where I expect I'll end my days after the guilty verdict
I'll be livin there on death row in the midst of other killers
oh how i wisht that I had run off to the lights of the big city

(chorus)

There's some takes delight in the NASCAR and the wrasslin
some takes delight in the football or the movies.
But I takes delight in the juice of the lightin,
and in courtin pretty fair maids in the mornin bright and early.

(chorus)
